What can I say..Just WOW! I’d devalue this by calling it an experience because it truly felt like I was at a long lost relatives home stopping in for Sunday dinner. From the hospitality to just interacting with the children (braiding hair & painting nails)…amazing. I’m rarely left speechless, but this was cool. Ahmed/Sharouk are truly ambassadors for Egypt. The icing on cake (literally) the special celebration for my birthday! Truly family for life ❤️

Have you ever been invited into a friend’s home for dinner and found yourself learning more about their culture and their family than you had previously known? That’s what you’re getting if you book this experience with Ahmed and Shorouk. My wife and I try to book an experience like this everywhere we travel, but we both agree that this one stands out above the rest. We truly felt like we were visiting our old friends rather than meeting new people in a home and neighborhood we’d never seen before. First of all, Shorouk made us a delicious meal with some classic Egyptian dishes and even let us participate in a few steps of the process in the kitchen. All the while, Ahmed taught us about the history of the food, plus what life is like as an Egyptian … and all around us, their daughters and their niece and nephew played games as though they did not have strangers in their home. In truth, they didn’t. Ahmed and Shorouk made it clear immediately that we were their family, and we honestly felt that way. After the wonderful meal, we played a board game with the kids and were then served Turkish coffee and Arabic coffee, plus dessert and a special traditional New Year’s Eve snack. I told Ahmed I had my own Turkish coffee pot at home and he gave me their bag of ground coffee so I could make it myself. That wasn’t the only gift they sent us home with, which is yet another example of the thoughtfulness of this experience. I’m quite certain Ahmed and Shorouk would have let us stay with them past midnight to celebrate the new year if we didn’t already have plans to be back at our apartment that night. I can’t recommend this experience enough. I truly believe we will keep in touch with Ahmed and Shorouk for years to come. They’re our Egyptian family, after all.

This was a very genuine experience to get connected to local people on our trip. Ahmed and Shouruk were terrific hosts going far beyond what you might expect. They are genuinely interested in meeting people from other countries and you immediately feel comfortable in their home. It’s like having new family.

This was, hands down, the best thing my friend and I did in Cairo. Ahmed, Shorouk, and their two daughters are absolutely amazing! Not only did they cook a wonderful meal of Egyptian favorites, but they created an incredibly warm and welcoming experience in only a few hours. I learned so much about their culture, their neighborhood, their careers, their daughters dreams, etc. I honestly can’t put into words how special this evening was, all I can say is you have to book it to experience it for yourselves!

If you want to know Egypt beyond the antiquities and tourist sites, go to dinner at Ahmed and Shorouk's home. While we travelers pay for an experience like this, I feel that payment just a means to make an authentic connection. My family felt wanted and welcomed beyond our tourist dollars in a way that's hard to duplicate in Egypt. Cairo can feel overwhelming to tourists from the global north-- it's crowded, loud, and chaotic. Shorouk and Ahmed provide a haven in the midst of this, a quiet night in a peaceful home. And for those of you interested in culture, how else can you spend time inside of a typical home? Shorouk and Ahmed love to share their culture with others, and they strive to show the world to their own daughters right in their living room by inviting in foreigners. They're passionate about showing the beautiful parts of Egypt-- its food, its history, its generosity, its community-- and they go above and beyond to make the experience meaningful. We stayed longer at their home than we thought we would, as the family wanted us to stay, and our children hugged their children goodbye. Beyond the connection and laughter, the food was authentic, delicious, and plentiful... though this is much more than a culinary experience. I highly recommend this experience-- you won't regret it.

Absolutely amazing experience in Cairo! We did about 20 different Airbnb experiences over the course of a month throughout Egypt and Turkey and this was by far our favourite! Ahmed and Shorouk were the best hosts EVER! If you’re looking for a casual, cosy night with an amazing local family, do not wait to book this!
